Hornsea Writers At The Massive Autumn Book Launch Event: Stuart Aken

Hornsea writer, Stuart Aken, was featured more than once at Fantastic Books Publishing’s Massive Autumn Book Launch Event (MABLE).

He appeared in an Eco-Thrillers Spotlight where 4 of his books were highlighted — An Excess Of… and his Generation Mars trilogy. In the spotlight video he can be seen chatting to fellow author, Linda Nicklin, whose novel, Storm Girl, set in Yorkshire & Lincolnshire, is also featured.

Later in the event, Stuart’s fantasy trilogy, A Seared Sky, was featured, along with fantasy series End Of Empire by Alex Janaway and The Filey Chronicles by Janet Blackwell.

Don't be too quick to think that the participants were all seasoned recording artists who sailed through without a glitch. The video editor occasionally slipped in some entertaining outtake sections.

#SFF at Waterstones Hull, 10 November

Among her many talents, member Shelli Horst runs Humber SFF, a group which brings speculative fiction authors to Hull, 2017's City of Culture.

This time she's blagged her way into Waterstones bookshop to host a triple author event:

Daniel Godfrey, published by Titan, writes near-future SF, so near-future it's difficult to stop the hair rising on the nape of your neck.

Ren Warom, published by Tor, Apex and Fox Spirit, writes in the dystopian world of cyber-punk, among other sub-genres.

RJ Barker, published by Orbit, leads readers into the grimdark epic fantasy world of assassins and magic.

The event on Saturday 10th November is free, but seating is limited. Book your place HERE.

It's Not Always Writing...

Yes, we do crawl from our separate garrets occasionally - meetings, conferences, litfests, research, supermarket - and sometimes to support a fellow writer at a Library Event Near You!

Recently a few of our members did just that, swelling the ranks of a reading group, library users, and interested citizens to hear Stephanie Butland chat and answer questions about her debut novel Letters To My Husband. Or... Surrounded By Water. Or... The Secrets We Keep. Or... Omringd Door Water. You guessed it, the title is dependant on the country and sometimes even the retailer, something Stephanie admitted confused even her at the outset, but became a great topic for discussion.

Stephanie was as enthusiastic as her audience and a great evening was had by all. Both the library staff and Stephanie asked for photographs, and we, of course, obliged. Except we're all trying to look nonchalent and failing, after laughing in the scrum to show the different covers of her book.

The event in Hornsea Library was a joint venture sponsored by Wordquake, Read Regional, and East Riding of Yorkshire Libraries. Let there be more!
